What is an Audiobook Musical?
Most people know that a Broadway cast recording is a recording of the songs from a staged musical by the cast with full orchestrations. An audiobook is a recorded version of a written book, usually recorded by one person, reading the text from cover to cover. An audiobook musical, such as "Spin," the first of its kind as far as we know, combines both. It is a complete audio only performance of a musical from opening to closing, with a narrator explaining the action, and a full cast of performers, acting the parts and singing the songs. Unlike a cast recording where it helps to have seen the stage version or at least know the story that connects the songs, our audiobook musical is completely self-contained, designed to be enjoyed as is, listening in your home, car, or sitting alone plugged into your smartphone or iPad.
